Picture Tutorial: Glowy Halo Eye
Baby's first pictorial! I've been wanting to do these for a long while but haven't had good enough lighting to do so until now. Please be gentle on me as this is my first one, and I'd really love to hear any feedback you have. If these go over well, I'd like to make this into a continuing series. Maybe do some beginner friendly tutorials or recreate old looks. This look was inspired by my girl /u/cassandraisright, she posted swatches of her collection to one of the indie makeup subs and the main two shades looked so beautiful next to each other.
Product List:
- Nars Smudgeproof Primer
- Urban Decay WoS
- Dog Days Thirteen, Fire Pledge
- Geek Chic We Are Coming
- Notoriously Morbid Shadow Bind
- Femme Fatale Alpine Skies, Icemist Diamond
- Corvus The Devil Told You That
- Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz
- Maybelline Colossal Mascara
Start by applying your eyeshadow primer. I also suggest sweeping a "base" color, or a color close to your skintone all over the lid to make the eyeshadows you apply on top easier to blend.
Apply your transition shades of choice. The transition shade works to help tie together your lid colors and your crease shade. Using a large fluffy blending brush (Sigma E40) I applied Blackbird Thirteen and Fire Pledge.
Take a deeper color (I used Geek Chic We are Coming) and apply that to the crease and on both outer edges of the lid using a small dome brush.
My eyes have pretty heavy folds so it's a little hard to see the crease shadow in this shot. If you have hooded eyes, make sure you're blending your colors up high enough so they can be seen when your eyes are open.
Apply Alpine Skies on either side of the We are Coming we put down on the lid edges with a medium flat shader brush. Try to leave the centermost part bare.
Pack on your center highlight shade (Corvus The Devil Told You That) in the center with a small shader brush.
This step is optional but I put down a layer of my sticky base Notoriously Morbid Shadow Bind and reapplied Alpine Skies and The Devil Told You That to get a foiled effect.
It may seem like overkill to reapply shades instead of going straight in with a sticky base first but I find it makes it much easier to get your colors applied evenly and somewhat blended.
Now that you have your main colors on. Go ahead and add in more color or blend where necessary. I felt my crease needed more depth so I went back in with some more We are Coming and added a little to the inner and outer lid.
I also applied Femme Fatale Icemist Diamond as an inner corner highlight and ran a bit of Thirteen on my lower lashline.
Add mascara and eye liner (optional) and voila! Your eye look is complete.
Thanks for checking out my tutorial and let me know if you'd like to see more of these!

Yes! I appreciate this picture tutorial. You make it easy!!!! And I will do the tip next time of applying color first and then a binder and then more color. I could have used that advice today! Well, it's almost 2016. Carissa, Happy New Year wherever you are right now. THANK YOU for your hard work. -----Is there a way I can be automatically notified of your recent posts? ReplyDeleteHi Denise, thanks for following my blog! I'm working on getting the website design updated soon and one of the things I'm focused on getting added is an email signup list so you can be notified of new posts. I'm hoping to have that done sometime in February :)
