Glittery Silver Halo Eye

Hi readers! Yesterday was my anniversary with my boyfriend so naturally I decided to go all out with my makeup. Am I the only one who looks forward to special occasions mostly for having an excuse to get dolled up and wear false lashes?! As is our tradition, we went out to our favorite Italian restaurant and gorged on pasta then spent the night out on the town.

For my makeup, I wanted something that would go well with my navy blue dress and silver accessories. My fellow warm-toned gals know it can be hard sometimes to pull off cool silvers and greys. Not that it looks terrible on us by any means, it's just not one of those colors that flatters our complexion. I actually had to dig around through my collection to even find a bright enough silver that would pop on my eyelid since I wear it so infrequently! I layered quite a few products for that halo highlight effect but the main star of the show is Darling Girl's Toast of The Town Glitter which has sadly been recently discontinued. It's got a blend of beautiful silver and champagne glitter in it. I don't wear glitter too often since it's usually a bit much for everyday but I love it for special occasions! Since we were going out to eat I decided to stick with a classic nude lip.

A Few Recent Makeup Looks

Hi everyone! Hope you are having a nice week. Today is my day off and I plan on spending it pressing my Siren Song Cosmetics and Brija Cosmetics samples into 15mm pans. Are any of you into pressing your eyeshadows? I'm currently going through a phase. I usually depot my samples into 5g jars because sample bags drive me crazy but lately I've been loving the storage-saving and convenience of pressing. I still depot colors I can't press - those that contain Ultramarine or Ferric Ferrocyanide are not recommended to press, as well as matte shades. I love the feeling of satisfaction when I look at all those 15mm pans all lined up neatly in my Anothersoul palette.

I have been shopping for new indies quite a bit this month. I'm participating in a Spring Exchange over at the subreddit r/IndieIslandofMisfits and have been having lots of fun picking out items for my partner (no spoilers here Briana! Mwuahaha) plus picking up various odds and ends for myself. My Notoriously Morbid order containing the Wave 4 Line of Mattes from their Slay Me Collection and the GWP's is on its way to me and should be here hopefully early next week so expect a review and swatches on those. Without wanting to give away much else to my partner just in case she sees this, I have some exciting posts coming up in the next month :)

Review, Swatches, and an EOTD: AFK Inconceivable Collection

Hello there! Today I have for you a review on a collection I was super excited to get my hands on. The indie makeup brand AFK Cosmetics has released a new collection based on the classic cult film, The Princess Bride. TPB is one of my all-time favorite movies since I was a child. I had actually been lamenting recently about how no one had come up with a collection based on it. Apparently the owner of AFK Cosmetics, Dena, is a mind-reader because here we are! I am happy to report it doesn't disappoint.

The collection consists of seven eyeshadows, two lip balms, and a highlighter. All shades were beautifully pigmented and had a nice, rich texture to them. This review will cover all of the shadows and the highlighter. I'll cover the lip balms separately if there's interest!

In regards to customer service, I have to say, Dena has seriously impressed me. I ordered the entire collection in the sample size plus full sizes of I'm Not a Witch, I'm Your Wife and Land War in Asia. I had wafted on purchasing To The Pain in a full size but ultimately decided against it. Big mistake. As soon as swatches of it started popping up on reddit, I left a comment on a review post that I regretted not picking up a full size of To The Pain. To my complete surprise, Dena generously offered to send me a full size! The overall quality of this collection is outstanding but the customer service I've received is by and away some of the best I've received in any purchases to date. AFK has made a lifelong customer of me!

The eyeshadows came securely packaged with cute wrapping paper. Isn't the label art beautiful? Buttercup and Wesley's bond was so inspirational to 4 year old me. Relationship goals right here.

Review & Swatches: AFK Cosmetics Haul

Good evening all!

Today I have some swatches and a first impression on a newer indie brand, AFK Cosmetics. AFK opened in mid 2014 and offers eyeshadows and lip balms. A few weeks ago they were having a sale so I decided to take the plunge and pick up some eyeshadows I had my eyes on. The nice thing about buying from lesser-known indie brands is that they often have shorter TAT's so I received my package in less than two weeks, which is pretty good by indie makeup standards!

In other news, I dyed my hair blonde for the first time ever! It's a super light color and I've always had my hair nearly black so it's definitely a big change but so far I'm loving it. Thursday is my 22nd birthday and my SO is taking me to The Cheesecake Factory for dinner so I'll try to snap some pics of my motd. I'm looking forward to playing with new color combinations to find what flatters my new look best :D

Now onto the swatches!

From left to right: Suicidal Bastard, Female Titan, Bronze V, The Strip.

The Strip is a brown-based taupe with multicolored shimmer. From the Wastelanders collection. The shimmer often looks like a blue shift and it's really a stunning shade. I can't thing of another shade quite like this one.

Bronze V is a metallic bronze. From the Summoners collection. Nice formula and catches the light nicely. A good one to pick up if you don't have a shade similar to this already in your collection.

Female Titan is from AFK's Fight or Die collection which is based on Attack on Titan. It's a shimmery light gold. Pretty shade but this one was probably my least favorite of the bunch, Unlike the other shades that all had a buttery, pigmented formula, this one applied a bit patchy.

Suicidal Bastard is a dark brown with subtle red shimmer from the Fight or Die collection. This would be a great shade to use as a liner, on the outer lower lash line, and in the crease to deepen it.

104th Trainees Squad is from the Fight or Die collection. It's a gorgeous mustard with an orange undertone. Completely unique in my collection and reminds me of a shimmery version of Mac's Uninterrupted eyeshadow.

Armored Titan is a matte orange red with gold sparkle. From the Fight or Die collection. Another stunner. I've never been one to use reds a lot but this shade is seriously changing my mind. I am dying to try this shade out with Hello Waffle's Fauxlivia.

Potato Girl is a an olive-toned medium matte brown with golden sheen. From the Fight or Die collection. Absolutely gorgeous. It has the same fantastic buttery formula as the other satin mattes I've swatched. I know these three will be getting a lot of use.

When I received my package, I was surprised to see how small the sample baggies are! They still contain 1/4 teaspoon of product, but the baggies are just smaller in size. Here it is next to a standard baggie from Ten Three Labs for comparison. My goodies also came wrapped in cute wrapping paper with a string bow. I appreciate the attention to detail and the effect wasn't lost on me.

Final Thoughts: 6/7 were hits for me. Nearly every shade, with the exception of Female Titan, had a super smooth formula and excellent pigmentation. AFK really excels in their satin matte formula which makes me happy because I completely love that formulation. I will probably pass Female Titan and Bronze V on to family as I have similar shades. My favorites were 104th Trainees Squad, The Strip, and Potato Girl. Overall, I'm thrilled with my first order and experience with AFK!
